Natural Building is the use of natural and renewable materials to create shelter for ourselves: something humans have been doing for millions of years. Natural building helps us to connect to the ecosystems we are a part of and use resources that are abundantly available. Each bioregion on earth has historically developed a building vernacular that was based upon available resources. The sky's the limit as you can build anything from natural materials.

Sustainable Building 101

WEBINAR SERIES:
February 8th 15th 22th 29th... from: 6:30-7:30pm

If you’ve been dreaming of a comfortable, safe and healthy home or property where you can design your future to maximise your budget, skills, network and opportunity then this is the webinar series for you.

Sustainable Building 101 is a 4-session webinar that will bring together sustainability experts, designers and planners who have worked for years in and around the industry in a series that will cover a range of topics and issues for you to consider when planning out your dream project.

In the vein of speed-dating a sustainability expert, this series brings together a range of experts who work in and around natural materials and can speak to their benefits, opportunities and how to incorporate more passive features into your home. There will be a presentation each week on a different topic and an opportunity to ask questions of our experts.

This series is aimed towards potential owner builders, those looking to design their own home or people working across the industry looking for ideas and tips.

Sign up for 1 or all 4 sessions as we get excited about sustainable building and good design.

Natural homes are breathable, maintain a stable temperature and often designed in conjunction with passive-solar design principles, which means they use less carbon-intensive energy and more natural energy from the sun, wind and cooling effects at night. They say that passive homes need active people, and we need to start managing our own comfort over pushing a button.

KNOWLEDGE

Learning & Connections

To start your natural building journey, you need to have the right tools.

Australia has a long and proud history of (modern) earth building, but this tradition has often been sidelined or forgotten in the rush towards easy and cheap housing solutions.

The knowledge runs deep in many communities across the country, but there are few outlets for learning and it’s hard to know where to look to find trusted, reliable information and instruction. Here we provide an opportunity for anyone, young or old, to learn through doing, or through reading and asking questions.

Natural homes are good for the soul. They are built with purpose, intention, community and love. They are designed to respond to the people living in them and the way they live. Beyond the self, your home can also make a difference on a global scale.
