HI ! My name is Hayden and I am the brains and energy behind the natural building business Curvatecture.

We have been living and breathing earth building for nearly 10 years, often using earth bags to build wondrous structures, otherwise known as Superadobe!

We’re fresh off the back of two wonderful Weekend Workshops held out on 20 acres in the Brisbane Ranges National Park VIC, to teach people from all walks of life the wonders of cordwood construction, bottle-brick design construction and implementation, rocket stove theory and construction, and cob pizza oven building.

All these technologies are based around clay, sand, straw, and timber, so are highly sustainable and very local, with the timber and clay being harvested from onsite.

Each workshop was well attended by around 16 adults and a collection of younger teens. We had people of all ages come along, the youngest being 3!

Each participant was so eager to learn a both new and ancient way to build structures and features of any shape and size, given the flexible nature of cob building, that being the basis of all the above mentioned constructions.

It was also a wonderful way for us to kick off our planned works here at The Beremboke Bush Retreat, a fledgling community and activity centre, 1hr west of Melbourne. The energy brought by all the generous and kind students is always a great way to fill a new space with excitement and enthusiasm!

We shared delicious home cooked meals around the fire and had such a great time getting to know everyone a little better, and watching them form bonds even over the short amount of time we spent together.

The space will become a small entertaining area, and an undercover workshop area for future classes and teaching.

We will also be running 2 more weekend workshops, to complete the cordwood wall and begin a light earth wall opposite it and complete the pizza oven and rocket stoves.
