Hands on hempcrete volunteering: Castlemaine

Interested in learning more about hempcrete? Join us for a hands-on hempcrete volunteer experience in Castlemaine, Victoria.

Dates are tentatively set for: 26 Aug – 13 Sept 2026, across weekends most weekdays (we might have Mondays and Tuesdays off). You’re welcome to join for a half day, full day, or a longer stretch.

You’ll have the opportunity to help mix, move, place, and tamp hempcrete into wall formwork while gaining insight into the full hemp wall installation process. No prior experience is required, just curiosity, a willingness to get involved, and clothing suitable for building site work. While hempcreting is physical, it’s not particularly hard work.

The hempcreting will be led by David Brian from Southern Hemp. Some onsite camping will be available. Snacks and lunch provided each day. Working bees, DIY and helping people get more confident with making and building are some of the things I love most… which is why all this is happening.
